First Asia Oceania Kendo Championships – Results

The First Asia Oceania Kendo Championships were held at Tokyos’ Tokyo Budokan arena on 30 and 31 May, 2026.

Many thanks to the organising team at the the Asia Oceania Kendo Federation and to the  All Japan Kendo Federation for their huge amount of logicistic support and hard work.

Thank you also and congratulations to the Australian Team for a wonderful effort!  All members showed not only great commitment in preparation, but also displayed an amazing effort on the shiaijo.  Well done and congratulations to all, we are proud of you all!!

Team  Manager, Ken Okomaoto sensei wrote “Not only were we able to achieve solid results at this tournament, but each athlete also gained great confidence heading toward next year’s WKC, while discovering new challenges to overcome individually. It was an incredibly meaningful and rewarding event for the entire team.”

The Australian Team was able to achieve the following results at this inaugural First Asia Oceania Kendo Championships:
Teams:
  • 3rd place in Women’s Teams.
    Team Members: Kelly Kishikawa, Samantha Zhong, Clay Zhou, Su Hee Cho, Grazia Nguyen, Iris Somera, Mio Tardy.
Individual awards:
  • 2nd place in 3 Dan & Below – Samantha Zhong
  • 2nd place in 3 Dan & Below – Joshua Wildey
  • Fighting Spirit Award in Women’s Open – Kelly Kishikawa
  • Fighting Spirit Award in 3 Dan & Below – Su Hee Cho
The team was able to achieve these results thanks to the many Sensei, AKR members, friends, and family members who supported the Team and development Squad, provided guidance and encouragement over the years.
