We are happy to announce the selection of the Australian Kendo Renmei competitors for the Second SportAccord Combat Games. to be held 18-26 October 2013 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
This event is one of very few opportunities for Australian kendo players to test their skills against the worlds best kendoka in a very challenging and competitive situation.
AKR was invited to submit one player each for three of the competition categories.
- Men’s Youth Individual, age 18-25.
- Men’s Individual, age 26-55 and 5, 6 or 7 Dan.
- Women’s Individual, age 21-40 and 3, 4 or 5 Dan.
Following observation at the recent 38th Australian Kendo Championships and further consideration, the AKR Kendo Board and others, have selected the following players to form the Australian Squad for the Second SportAccord Combat Games.
- Kelvin Tran from NSW – Men’s Youth Individual competition.
- Kirby Smith, from NSW, multiple Australian Open Kendo Champion and Australian Kendo Team member for World Kendo Championships – Men’s Individual competition.
- Vivian Yung from NSW, a former Australian Womens Kendo Champion and Australian Kendo Team member for World Kendo Championships – Women’s Individual competition.

The Kendo competition is scheduled for 21+22 October 2013.
