{"id":3735,"date":"2016-09-06T16:55:09","date_gmt":"2016-09-06T05:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kendoaustralia.asn.au\/content\/?p=3735"},"modified":"2017-01-18T14:50:28","modified_gmt":"2017-01-18T03:50:28","slug":"japanese-budo-demonstration-and-goodwill-keiko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kendoaustralia.asn.au\/content\/?p=3735","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Budo Demonstrations and Goodwill Kendo Keiko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You have probably heard of the Nippon Budokan. \u00a0This remarkable budo centre\u00a0is used each year as the venue for the All Japan Kendo Championships and was the venue for the 16th World Kendo Championships, held in 2015 and many other important cultural events.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kendo-world.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Budokan-e1467022013643-768x359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each year, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nipponbudokan.or.jp\/english\" target=\"_blank\">Nippon Budokan Foundation<\/a>, the foundation that manages the Budokan and surrounds,\u00a0dispatches a \u201cBudo Delegation\u201d (Japanese martial ways) to a different country to perform demonstrations, hold workshops, and facilitate greater international understanding of the traditional Japanese martial arts. This is an event sponsored by the Government of Japan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sports Agency.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the 40<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the signing of the \u201cBasic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation\u201d (1976) between Australia and Japan, the 2016 International Budo Delegation consisting of 78 martial arts masters will visit Sydney in November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>This year, nine modern budo disciplines will be demonstrated. \u00a0Judo, kendo, karatedo, shorinji kempo, naginata, aikido, sumo, kyudo and jukendo. There will also be three kobudo (classical) traditions at the demonstration: Hozoin-ryu Takada-ha Sojutsu (spear), Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Takuma-kai, and Hokushin Itto-ryu Kenjutsu (swordsmanship).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div><strong>November 11, 2016 (Fri.) \u2013 Mini Budo Seminar and Demonstration<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><em>UNSW, Colombo Theatre A; 14:00-16:00.
