Kendo&#8217;s origins are most closely associated with the feudal Japanese Samurai and many protocols within today\u2019s dojos still reflect this cultural tradition. Kendo has now become a popular sport form that is suitable for both men and women of all ages, who practice and compete together.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>The Concept of Kendo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Concept of Kendo is to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana (Japanese sword).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Purpose of Practicing Kendo is:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To mould the mind and body.<br \/>\nTo cultivate a vigorous spirit,<br \/>\nAnd through correct and rigid training,<br \/>\nTo strive for improvement in the art of Kendo.<br \/>\nTo hold in esteem human courtesy and honour.<br \/>\nTo associate with others with sincerity.<br \/>\nAnd to forever pursue the cultivation of oneself.<br \/>\nThis will make one be able:<br \/>\nTo love his\/her country and society.<br \/>\nTo contribute to the development of culture<br \/>\nAnd to promote peace and prosperity among all peoples.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The word kendo literally means &#8216;The Way of the Sword&#8217; (ken: sword + do: way), and can best be described as Japanese Fencing.
