Audit of the AKR Grade and Shogo Register

Dear State Delegates and Secretaries,

Would you please forward this request to your State's club and dojo contacts for their timely attention and action?

The AKR is conducting an audit of the grade and Shogo register to ensure that it is complete and accurate.

The register may not be current for a variety of reasons, in particular for members who have been graded overseas and have not provided evidence to their State association nor the AKR of the grade awarded.

Please note that for this audit we are ONLY interested in Dan grades of;

• 3rd Dan and above,
• Shogo levels of Renshi, Kyoshi and Hanshi.

The attached Excel spreadsheet (available from State Delegates and Secretaries) contains the grade data that we have for members of 3rd Dan and above and for Shogo. Please use the sort function to narrow the search for your members. Note also, that a member may have more than one historical listing, so please check carefully and then only for the most recent, current or highest grade.

We request your action, only if:

• A member of 3rd Dan or above is NOT on the attached list.
• A member’s grade or Shogo on the attached list is INCORRECT.

In these cases, an amendment to the registration data will be made after appropriate documentary evidence is provided, being:

• A photocopy of the member’s grading certificate.
• If the certificate is not in English, please also provide a brief translation that includes name of issuer, the date and place awarded and the Dan or Shogo level.

Photocopies, image scans or PDF's of the certificates with the translation are to be sent to the members state or territory association. After noting the detail (if desired), state or territory associations are requested to then forward the copy of certificates with translation to: Dr. Khay-Lin Teoh AKR Treasurer.

Please note, if proof is not supplied, the current grade data will be the AKR and FIK recognised grades, as shown on the current register.

If a member whose entry is incorrect, has a claim to a grade from an organisation other than the AKR and does not have a copy of the certificate, the member will, themselves, need to take the necessary action to obtain the requested evidence.

In an extreme case and ONLY for AJKF awarded 6th Dan and above, or Shogo, the AKR may be able seek confirmation from the AJKF. Note: the AJKF and FIK may not be able to provide data for awards made by other national federations for below 6th Dan.
